Softball Preview: Preston Knights vs. Robert C. Byrd Eagles
Preston hasn't had much luck against Robert C. Byrd recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Knights will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Preston has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Preston couldn't beat Washington on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Knights took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots.
Preston saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rhylinn Sanders, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Josie Higginbottom was another, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Robert C. Byrd got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. They came out on top against East Fairmont by a score of 7-2.
Chloe Barlow made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amirah Moore, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Sameria Butler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Robert C. Byrd's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-7. As for Preston, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
