Basketball Recap: Hitchcock County Comes Up Short

Hitchcock County was the 58-43 winner over Wauneta-Palisade when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Hitchcock County Falcons fell 54-45 to the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos on Thursday.

When it comes to explaining why Hitchcock County lost, don't look at Madysen Carlson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. That was a full 35.6% of Hitchcock County's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiah Johnson, who had nine points and five boards.

Wauneta-Palisade's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Acton, who earned eight points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave Acton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was McKenna Doetker, who scored eight points and seven rebounds.

Hitchcock County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Wauneta-Palisade, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.

Hitchcock County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-38 win against Cody-Kilgore on the 3rd. As for Wauneta-Palisade, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-41 victory against Medicine Valley on the 6th.
