Basketball Recap: Milan Comes Up Short

Milan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They fell 45-32 to the Riverview Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Big Reds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while the Pirates are ranked 129th).

It was another big night for Averi Westbay, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards for Riverview. Westbay has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kate Patterson, who posted nine points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Milan's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Riverview, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

When Milan and Riverview next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Milan will take on St. Mary Catholic Central and their 14-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Riverview will try to stop Huron's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
