Basketball Recap: Wellington Comes Up Short

Wellington played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Berthoud Spartans, falling 75-39. The Eagles were down 56-26 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Wellington lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ava Essay, who posted nine points and three steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Brookelyn Jones was another key player, putting up ten points along with five boards and three blocks.

Berthoud found their leader in sophomore Sofia Sigg, who on her way to 21 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Avery Pfohl, who put up 16 points along with six assists and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Wellington and nudges their season record down to 3-19. As for Berthoud, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.

Coming up, Wellington will face off against Timnath at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Berthoud, they have already played their next matchup, a 55-43 loss against Northridge on the 22nd.
