Basketball Game Preview: Millersport Lakers vs. Fisher Catholic Irish

Millersport hasn't had much luck against Fisher Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Millersport Lakers will venture away from home to square off against the Fisher Catholic Irish at 7:30 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Lilly Atkinson and Hadli Gillum.

Millersport is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Columbus School for Girls on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Millersport came up short against Columbus School for Girls, falling 52-29. The Lakers were down 37-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fisher Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Berne Union 53-10 on Wednesday. The Irish have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 22 points or more this season.

Fisher Catholic's win came from a few key players Millersport will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Gillum, who went 9 of 16 on her way to 19 points in addition to six boards and three steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Snoke, who went 5 for 10 en route to 10 points along with eight steals and six rebounds.

Fisher Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Fisher Catholic pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.4 points. As for Millersport, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
