It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Willamette ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the South Medford Panthers 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolverines have posted since May 6, 2025.

Tayla Ferre spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Macy Rush, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Ireland, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Willamette is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for South Medford, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Willamette beat the Panthers by a score of 16-11 later that day.
