Basketball Game Preview: Northwest Halifax Vikings vs. Northampton County Jaguars

The Northwest Halifax Vikings just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Northampton County Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Northwest Halifax took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past KIPP P 66-17. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Pride: they've now won eight in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northwest Halifax to victory, but perhaps none more so than Keyara Rook, who posted 31 points. Rook's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssia Patterson, who scored 20 points.

Meanwhile, Northampton County strolled past Southeast Halifax with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 40-23.

Northwest Halifax better keep an eye on Toccara Joyner. She was instrumental in Northampton County's win, putting up 13 points and three steals. Joyner has become a key player for Northampton County: the team is undefeated when she posts at least three steals, but 5-10 otherwise. Kaiyah Cherry was another key player, posting 12 points and five boards.

Northampton County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 37.9% in those games and 21.9% outside of them. As for Northwest Halifax, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-11.

Northwest Halifax skirted past Northampton County 34-31 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Does Northwest Halifax have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northampton County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
