Baseball Game Preview: Windsor Dukes vs. Surry County Cougars

The Windsor Dukes will face off against the Surry County Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Windsor's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Brunswick. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dukes.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Surry County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Franklin 10-0 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Tanner Keckler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mathew Johnson and Dalton Pierce did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Pierce scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. That's the most RBI Johnson has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dawson Keckler, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Surry County's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Windsor, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
