Basketball Game Preview: Mountain View Bruins vs. Layton Christian Academy Eagles

Mountain View is 0-3 against Layton Christian Academy since January of 2024 but things could change on Friday. The Mountain View Bruins are taking a road trip to face off against the Layton Christian Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Mountain View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Mountain View came up short against Timpanogos and fell 62-54. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Timberwolves are ranked 17th).

Mountain View might have lost, but man, Jaxson Hockersmith was a machine: he went 7 for 11 en route to 20 points along with seven boards and three blocks. Micah Fairbanks was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Meanwhile, Layton Christian Academy entered their tilt with Uintah on Tuesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They blew past the Utes 71-42. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Eagles just coasted through the last quarter.

Layton Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Mountain View, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.

Mountain View took a serious blow against Layton Christian Academy in their previous meeting on January 14th, falling 86-54. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mountain View was down 49-29.
