Preview: Rocky Mountain Grizzlies vs. Timberline Wolves
Rocky Mountain is 1-9 against Timberline since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies will head out on the road to square off against the Timberline Wolves at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Rocky Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Rocky Mountain faced Middleton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Rocky Mountain fell to Middleton 59-53. Rocky Mountain has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Anna Dabell, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Averee Osterhout, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Timberline can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent game two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Centennial as Timberline made off with a 46-25 victory. The win was nothing new for Timberline as they're now sitting on six straight.
Timberline found their leader in underclassman Alexis Moore, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Moore posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Grace Mertes, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Rocky Mountain has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-5 record this season. As for Timberline, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Rocky Mountain have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Timberline, though, as they've been averaging only 30.9 rebounds per game. Given Rocky Mountain's sizeable advantage in that area, Timberline will need to find a way to close that gap.
Rocky Mountain came out on top in a nail-biter against Timberline in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, sneaking past 55-52. Will Rocky Mountain repeat their success, or does Timberline have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
