Basketball Game Preview: Port Gibson Blue Waves vs. Warren Central Vikings

The Port Gibson Blue Waves will face off against the Warren Central Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Port Gibson is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Natchez on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Port Gibson lost 52-32 to Natchez. While losing is never fun, the Blue Waves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 73rd).

Port Gibson's defeat came about despite a quality game from Nya Washington, who posted four points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Warren Central scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to Murrah. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Warren Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Port Gibson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Port Gibson against Warren Central in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 46-14 victory. In that game, Port Gibson amassed a halftime lead of 38-8, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
