Myles Erker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Adler Kreig was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Kiowa is undefeated when Kreig posts two or more runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Austin Brogger was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two doubles.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Simla). They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over Calhan on Saturday. Considering the Cubs have won 11 matches by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Kiowa, Simla also got a great game from a two-way player: Wyatt Stanko. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stanko was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Caston Cox looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, T.J. Eurich and Taylor Kissam did most of the damage at the plate: Eurich went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and four runs, while Kissam went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four runs gave Eurich a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Kissam, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Simla hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Simla pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Kiowa, their record now sits at 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Kiowa has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Simla struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Kiowa might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from Simla in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
