Franklin proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the King Philip Regional Warriors 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won six in a row.
While Franklin might've won, it sure wasn't easy: King Philip Regional scored at least 12 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 15-12.
Makayla Kuykendall paced Franklin's offense, picking up 15 kills. Kuykendall got some help from Phoebe O'Connor and her 40 assists. Kuykendall was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.
Defeat or not, King Philip Regional got some senior leadership from Cece Mullen and Caleigh Shore. Mullen had 21 assists and 13 digs, while Shore had 20 digs. Mullen has been hot, having posted 12 or more assists the last seven times she's played. Alli Cleasby also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Franklin's victory bumped their record up to 14-2. As for King Philip Regional, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Franklin and King Philip Regional should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 13th) will meet Taunton (ranked 138th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, King Philip Regional will challenge Sharon at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (43 vs. 211).
