Softball Recap: Winamac's Loss Ends 12-Game Winning Streak at Home

Winamac dropped their record down to 11-3 on Friday, which also ended the team's 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Newton Spartans. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Warriors were not able to get on the board.

As for North Newton, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.

For North Newton's part, Sydney Rainford was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Rainford has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Riley Higgins was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

Coming up, Winamac will challenge North Judson-San Pierre at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Newton, they will square off against Faith Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.73 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
