Football Recap: Canyon Lake Keeps Crockett's Under Pressure

If Crockett wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Canyon Lake, they should've done a better job of containing Jace Wheeler. Canyon Lake breezed past Crockett to the tune of 49-7 on Friday for which the team can thank Wheeler, who threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season.

Chris Brown helped Wheeler out on the ground, rushing for 33 yards and a pair of TDs, while also picking up 72 receiving yards and one score. Brown really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 72 yards.

Canyon Lake's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They got some further help from Eli Hammons: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

The win got Canyon Lake back to even at 1-1. As for Crockett, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Canyon Lake didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 21-13 victory against Navarro on the 12th. As for Crockett, they have also already played their next contest, a 55-26 defeat against Long Creek on the 11th.
