Preview: Kensington KENSINGTON TIGER vs. Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs

After both having extra time off, the Kensington KENSINGTON TIGER and the Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 3:15 p.m. on February 12th. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kensington has three straight victories, Maritime Academy Charter has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Even though Bodine scored an imposing 59 points last Thursday, Kensington still came out on top. Kensington snuck past Bodine with a 65-59 victory.

Kensington had a senior duo take command as Elijah Wood scored 23 points and Jovan McCants scored 22 points. That makes it seven consecutive games in which McCants has scored at least a third of Kensington's points. Another player making a difference was Deanthony Rodriguez, who scored 11 points.

Meanwhile, Maritime Academy Charter pushed their score all the way to 55 last Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Overbrook 60-55. While losing is never fun, Maritime Academy Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 649th, while Overbrook is ranked 228th).

Despite the defeat, Maritime Academy Charter saw an underclassman step up: Andy Figueroa scored 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Figueroa has scored all season. Jaseer Mann was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Maritime Academy Charter were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Kensington has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for Maritime Academy Charter, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-16.

Monday's match is shaping up to be a blowout: Kensington hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.5 points per game. It's a different story for Maritime Academy Charter, though, as they've been averaging only 39.9 points per game. The only thing between Kensington and another offensive beatdown is Maritime Academy Charter. Will they be able to keep them contained?

Kensington was taken down by Maritime Academy Charter 78-47 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Kensington was down 44-24.
