Basketball Recap: Warsaw Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Warsaw can now relate to. They came up short against the Geneseo Blue Devils on Friday, falling 64-44. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 701st, while the Blue Devils are ranked 142nd).

Leading Geneseo to victory were Oren Ray and Avery Hepler. Ray dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists, while Hepler posted 13 points and four steals. That's the most steals Hepler has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caleb Rice, who scored five points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Warsaw has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.6 points over those games. The victory (which was Geneseo's fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-4.

Warsaw does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Geneseo, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-37 win against Red Creek on the 3rd.
