Softball Game Preview: North Mustangs vs. Alhambra Lions

For the second straight game, North will face off against Alhambra. The Mustangs will head out to square off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

While North's win against Alhambra wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Lions on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since March 22, 2024.

Solis Coker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, North saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Atiana Rios, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

North hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alhambra struck out nine times.

With the victory, North broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-12. As for Alhambra, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-12.

Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Alhambra struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
