Northgate is 8-2 against Berean Christian since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Broncos will face off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Northgate is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Northgate is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Pinole Valley. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Broncos.
Ashley Herman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Herman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison Baxter, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another was Jillian Neil, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Northgate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Berean Christian entered their tilt with Salesian College Preparatory on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Pride. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.
Alissa Jones and Leila Rhoads did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Rhoads went 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Kundysek, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Northgate now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Berean Christian, their record now sits at 18-3.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northgate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Berean Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northgate took their win against Berean Christian in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
