Softball Game Preview: Westminster Academy Lions vs. Oxbridge Academy ThunderWolves

The Westminster Academy Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Oxbridge Academy ThunderWolves at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Wednesday, Westminster Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away Stoneman Douglas. They won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 8-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Oxbridge Academy came out on top against Cardinal Newman on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The ThunderWolves walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Crusaders. The win was familiar territory for the ThunderWolves, who have now won three games in a row.

Aubrey Vital made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Oxbridge Academy let Riley Fraunfelter and Kaiya Glucksman run wild. Fraunfelter went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Glucksman went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Ella Bianco was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.

Oxbridge Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.

Oxbridge Academy's record is now 16-6. As for Westminster Academy, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Westminster Academy couldn't quite get it done against Oxbridge Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2017 as they fell 5-1. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
