Softball Recap: Thomas Stone Comes Up Short

Thomas Stone extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They came up short against the North Point Eagles, falling 17-1. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for North Point, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-5 record. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

For North Point's part, Alyssa Blaney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Blaney has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, North Point got a massive performance out of Sophia Weedin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Weedin a new career-high. Aminah Ayyad was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Thomas Stone will head out to take on La Plata at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for North Point, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Northern at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
