Baseball Recap: Zeigler-Royalton Drops Highest Score of Season Against Elverado

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Zeigler-Royalton). Everything went their way against the Elverado Falcons on Monday as they made off with a 16-1 win. Considering the Tornadoes have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Chase Freeman was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Niblett, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Zeigler-Royalton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elverado only posted an OBP of .231.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Zeigler-Royalton, bringing their record up to 14-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Elverado, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Looking ahead, Zeigler-Royalton will square off against Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tornadoes 2.7, the Silver Stallions 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Elverado, they will challenge Eldorado at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
