Baseball Game Preview: Wilson Wildcats vs. Spruce Timberwolves

The Wilson Wildcats will challenge the Spruce Timberwolves at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wilson has eight straight victories, Spruce has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Wilson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Samuell 16-1 on Saturday. Considering the Wildcats have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Joe Cabrera Loera made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Cabrera Loera was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wilson got a massive performance out of Daniel Gonzalez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave Gonzalez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Shoulders, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2.

Wilson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .760. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Spruce fell victim to Adams and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 18-0 to the Cougars.

Wilson pushed their record up to 13-4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Spruce, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
