Softball Recap: Griffith's Undefeated Season over After Eight Games

Griffith has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.25 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They lost 11-1 to the Hanover Central Wildcats. The Panthers were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Wildcats' pitcher proved too tough.

Cheyanne Fant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and seven unearned) runs on 14 hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Griffith saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Kubaszak, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Having lost for the first time this season, Griffith fell to 7-1. As for Hanover Central, they moved to 6-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Griffith will square off against Highland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hanover Central, they will take on Kankakee Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Kougars have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
