Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Central Valley's Winning Streak

Central Valley dropped their record down to 17-8 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Oakdale Mustangs by a score of 7-5. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Mason Whitworth made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Fernando Dominguez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Oakdale, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Oakdale's side, Landon Schutte made a big impact no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Schutte has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Oakdale let Bas Stice and Peyton Wallace run wild. Stice went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Wallace went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Stice has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Griffin Costa, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Central Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-0 win against Golden Valley on the 24th. As for Oakdale, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-3 victory against Hughson on the 24th.
