Baseball Recap: Madison County Wins Going Away Against Godby

After losing to Godby the last time they met, Madison County decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Madison County was the clear victor by a 14-3 margin over Godby on Friday. With that win, the Cowboys brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Madison County got a massive performance out of Kannon Plain, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Plain is becoming a predictor of Madison County's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton McNutt, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Plain wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Madison County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for Madison County: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.

The victory got Madison County back to even at 9-9. As for Godby, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Madison County will host Trenton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Godby, they will venture away from home to face off against Rickards at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Rickards has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.06 runs per game on average), something Godby will no doubt try to take advantage of.
