Softball Recap: Sugar-Salem Diggers vs. Preston Indians
Sugar-Salem had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Preston on Saturday. The Diggers put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 19-4 win. The Diggers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th.
Ashlyn Harris made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Sugar-Salem got a massive performance out of Kenadee Birch, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Birch continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kambry Bartholick was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Sugar-Salem always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
