Cameron Forte poured in a Class 4A state record 60 points as McClintock (Tempe, Ariz.) routed Combs (San Tan Valley, Ariz.), 96-42.
The 6-foot-6 standout drilled 27 of 39 shots from the field, with just one 3-pointer, while also pulling down 16 rebounds and dishing out eight assists. He made five of his 10 free throw attempts.
The previous 4A record was 58 points by Aromeo Grigsby of Tucson Pueblo against Phoenix Carl Hayden in 2003. The overall big- school state record is 62 by Dennis Dairman of Phoenix North against Carl Hayden in 1960.
"He reminds me of a Carmelo Anthony-type," Arizona Republic sports writer Richard Obert told MaxPreps after watching Forte score 45 points three nights later during a 74-59 victory over highly-regarded Tempe High.
Forte, who scored all 17 of his team's first-quarter points against Tempe, easily outscored the state's No. 1 scorer, 6-3 Pepperdine-bound guard
Jordan Baker, who finished with 26 points despite picking up four fouls in the first half.
Baker is averaging 31.9 points.
