Freshman quarterback Koa Malau'ulu leads No. 2 St. John Bosco to 28-24 win over No. 16 Orange Lutheran.

The craziest finish of the week went down in Texas as No. 24 Atascocita (Humble, Texas) pulled out a 42-39 win over Summer Creek (Houston). The Eagles were in control as they went into halftime with a 35-7 lead but the Bulldogs scored 32 unanswered points to take a 39-35 lead with 3:04 left.

Atascocita responded and drove down the field as four-star Oklahoma commit Tory Blaylock scored his third touchdown of the night to give the Eagles a 42-39 lead with 12 seconds left.

No. 6 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) won its fifth straight game with a 21-16 win at No. 19 Venice (Fla.). The Ascenders scored on the first play of the game with a 80-yard touchdown pass from Eric McFarland to Adonis Moise on a trick play. Michigan-bound running back Donovan Johnson made it 14-7 early in the second quarter and the Ascenders extended their lead to 21-7 with a 62-yard touchdown pass from Ty Hawkins to Donovan Olugbode.

The defense held Venice to 16 points and they went into the game averaging 55.8 points per game. They had scored at least 48 points in every game this season.

No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) did something it has never done under head coach Jason Negro and that is start a freshman quarterback against No. 16 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.). Koa Malau'ulu got the nod because junior Matai Fuiava was banged up. After trailing 10-0 at halftime he led the Braves to a 28-24 win to improve to 6-0.

Malau'ulu threw for four touchdowns in the second half and led St. John Bosco on a 77-yard drive in the final three minutes to take a 28-24 lead with under a minute left. He connected with Carson Clark for a 22-yard score that ended up being the game-winning score.

Auburn (Ala.) snapped No. 15 Central's (Phenix City) 18-game win streak with a 38-33 win on the road. The Tigers improved to 6-0 and expect them to take a big jump in the rankings as they were at No. 70 in our expanded top 100.

Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) took down No. 18 JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) with a 20-7 win and expect the Friars to jump in the MaxPreps Top 25 for the first time since 2021 when they had Noah Fifita, Mason Graham, Tetairoa McMillan and Jacob Manu.

No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) improved to 5-0 with a 40-18 win over Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) in its Trinity League opener. Oregon-bound running back Jordon Davison rushed for three scores in the win.
