Softball Game Preview: Asheboro Blue Comets vs. Western Guilford Hornets

The Asheboro Blue Comets will head out to square off against the Western Guilford Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Asheboro lost 19-4 to Grimsley on Wednesday.

A'Mya Mosby was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Shellee Culler was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Asheboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Western Guilford came up short against Asheboro on Tuesday, falling 29-21. The Hornets have struggled against the Blue Comets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Ella McCoy and Hannah Hicks did some serious damage despite the final result: McCoy scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances, while Hicks scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlee Hull, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Asheboro's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Western Guilford, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Everything went Asheboro's way against Western Guilford when the teams last played on Tuesday, as Asheboro made off with a 29-21 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Asheboro since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
