Baseball Game Preview: Eldorado Golden Eagles vs. Sandia Matadors

The Eldorado Golden Eagles will challenge the Sandia Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Eldorado comes in on 11 and Sandia on four.

Eldorado is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Los Lunas by a score of 12-7.

Ethan Marquez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Marquez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other pitching news, Abram Pine looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Brody Hoffman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Cirillio Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Eldorado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Sandia faced Rio Rancho in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Matadors walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Rams.

Eldorado pushed their record up to 23-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Sandia, their win bumped their record up to 22-8.

Eldorado skirted past Sandia 10-8 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
