Softball Recap: Anthem Prep Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Anthem Prep had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the St. John Paul II Catholic Lions as the Anthem Prep Eagles made off with a 21-2 win.

Bailey McCabe made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. McCabe was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Purvis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Molly McCabe was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

St. John Paul II Catholic's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Anthem Prep will face off against Desert Heights Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The match will give Anthem Prep their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, they will take on Heritage Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
