Basketball Recap: Abbi Gibbs' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brownell Talbot over Elmwood-Murdock

Brownell Talbot was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 56-33 to the Elmwood-Murdock Knights. The Raiders were not able to make up for their loss to the Knights from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abbi Gibbs, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Gibbs has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 18 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Nichols, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, Brownell Talbot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Elmwood-Murdock got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brooke Goudie out in front who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points along with six boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Mans, who had 13 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Brownell Talbot now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Elmwood-Murdock, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Brownell Talbot wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 45-39 defeat against Mercy on the 7th. As for Elmwood-Murdock, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 44-43 loss against Sacred Heart on the 7th.
