Soccer Game Preview: West Salem vs. Holmen

The West Salem Panthers will take on the Holmen Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

West Salem came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to Belleville. While getting shut out isn't ideal, West Salem haven't been shut out since back in April.

Meanwhile, Holmen didn't have quite enough to beat West Salem on Tuesday and fell 2-1. While losing is never fun, Holmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin soccer rankings (they are ranked 94th, while West Salem are ranked 34th).

Holmen has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6-1 record this season. As for West Salem, they moved to 9-2-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

West Salem skirted past Holmen 2-1 in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
