Softball Game Preview: Kinston Bulldogs vs. New Brockton Gamecocks

The Kinston Bulldogs will face off against the New Brockton Gamecocks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kinston has four straight victories, New Brockton has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Friday. Kinston blew past Geneva County 8-1. Considering Kinston has won three matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Lauren Norris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Norris was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allyx Williamson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Kinston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Geneva County only posted an OBP of .312.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for New Brockton's offense. They lost 14-0 to Ariton on Friday.

Kinston's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs over those games. As for New Brockton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Kinston came up short against New Brockton when the teams last played back in March of 2021, falling 7-2. Can Kinston avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
