Basketball Game Preview: Oakland Mills Scorpions vs. Douglass Eagles

The Oakland Mills Scorpions will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Douglass Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Wednesday, Oakland Mills took their contest with ease, bagging a 58-20 win over Atholton. While fans of the Scorpions might be used to big wins, the 38-point margin marked the team's biggest one yet.

Meanwhile, Douglass waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Hornets 81-28.

Oakland Mills better focus on containing Courtney Smith and Naiy'Lah Crutchfield as the pair were huge in Douglass' win. Smith went 11 of 20 on her way to 25 points and three steals, while Crutchfield dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, Crutchfield is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Francesca Svizzero, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points along with seven assists and six boards.

Douglass smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Oakland Mills now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Douglass, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
