Baseball Recap: Upper Dauphin Area Wins Going Away Against Newport

Upper Dauphin Area barely beat Newport the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans put the hurt on the Buffaloes with a sharp 12-1 win on Friday. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Trojans this season.

Colt Bellis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Upper Dauphin Area is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-8 otherwise. Bellis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Karson Engle and Nolan Schreffler did most of the damage at the plate: Engle got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Schreffler went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Engle a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Grassmyer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.

Upper Dauphin Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Upper Dauphin Area's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Newport, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

Coincidentally, Upper Dauphin Area and Newport will both be playing Greenwood the next time they take the field. The Buffaloes will host the Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Trojans will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
