Basketball Recap: Newton Snags 11th Victory in Last 13 Games

After losing to Taylorsville the last time they met, Newton decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Newton Tigers walked away with a 36-23 win over the Taylorsville Tartars on Saturday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Tartars are ranked 171st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Taylorsville had strong showings from Aliana Johnson, who posted six points, and London Young, who put up six points.

Newton is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Taylorsville, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-13 record.

Newton has already played their next game (against Leake Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Taylorsville will be playing in front of their home fans against Southeast Lauderdale at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
