Baseball Recap: McComb Takes a Loss

McComb extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 6-7. They came up short against the Lawrence County Cougars, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent loss being a 12-0 defeat on Thursday.

McComb saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaylen Lewis, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Lawrence County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-10. Give their pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

On Lawrence County's side, Drake Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Wilson posted two strikeouts, the most he's had over his last two matchups. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, JaKobe Haynes was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zachary Siler, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Coming up, McComb will challenge Poplarville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lawrence County, they will square off against South Pike at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.07 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
