Football Recap: State College Little Lions vs. Gateway Gators

State College took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They claimed a resounding 41-14 win over the Gateway Gators. Given the Little Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Gators are ranked 73rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

D'Antae Sheffey had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 197 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Connor Kulka was another key player, throwing for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: State College was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 305 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gateway only rushed for 151 rushing yards.

Gateway lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Elvis Koutsakis, Jr, who threw for 189 yards and a pair of TDs. Tyree Gowder was Koutsakis, Jr's top target, picking up 90 receiving yards and one score.

Coming up, State College will head out to face off against Altoona at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Little Lions their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Gateway, they will host North Allegheny at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
