Basketball Recap: Vandalia Christian Beats Asheboro Hybrid Academy for Their Fourth Straight Victory

If Asheboro Hybrid Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Vandalia Christian, they should've done a better job of containing Jaida Steele. The Vandalia Christian Vikings walked away with a 44-37 win over the Asheboro Hybrid Academy Warriors on Thursday thanks in part to Steele, who posted 16 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Vandalia Christian's points.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was McKenna Voncannon, who scored 16 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Those 16 points gave Voncannon a new career-high. Emily West was another key player, putting up 13 points and eight boards.

The victory (which was Vandalia Christian's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-6. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.3 points per game. As for Asheboro Hybrid Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Vandalia Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 49-24 loss against Gospel Light Christian on the 24th.
