Baseball Recap: Shelby County Continues Home Dominance on Saturday

The Shelby County Rockets earned a 7-2 victory over the Clay Eagles on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rockets.

Isaiah Bolin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Shelby County is 2-1 when Bolin allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Bolin was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Isaac Voight and Caleb Cook did most of the damage at the plate: Voight scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Cook scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those two hits gave Voight a new career-high. Jack Stewart was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Shelby County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clay only posted a batting average of .208.

Shelby County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing nine hits in those games compared to only 4.14 in the others. As for Clay, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Shelby County will square off against Western Hills at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Shelby County will need to watch out since Western Hills has now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season. As for Clay, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Clay Eagles challenge Atherton Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: Atherton has averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
