Softball Game Preview: Northeast Jones Tigers vs. Mendenhall Tigers

For the second straight game, Northeast Jones will face off against Mendenhall. We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. Northeast Jones knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Mendenhall likes a good challenge.

Northeast Jones is returning to their home field after beating Mendenhall on theirs, despite the fact Mendenhall has dominated at home this season. Northeast Jones blew past Mendenhall 14-1 on Tuesday. Considering Northeast Jones has won ten games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Caroline Myrick made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Myrick was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Landrum, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Kylinn Vice, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Northeast Jones always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Northeast Jones has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Mendenhall, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5-1.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northeast Jones hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408.
