Softball Game Preview: John Marshall Rockets vs. Mayo Spartans

The John Marshall Rockets will head out to face off against the Mayo Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

John Marshall is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 21st straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They lost 17-7 to Owatonna.

Meanwhile, Mayo hadn't done well against Mankato West recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Spartans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Scarlets a 5-0 shutout. The victory was just business as usual for the Spartans, who after five games remain undefeated this season.

Mayo's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for John Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

John Marshall suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Mayo when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
