Baseball Game Preview: Muir Mustangs vs. Hoover Tornados

Muir has gone a perfect 10-0 against Hoover recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Tornados at 3:45 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Muir has four straight wins, Hoover has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Muir had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Hoover on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Tornados. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Muir got a great performance from Miguel Castillo as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Castillo has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Conrad Hunziker was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kahlil Rishwain, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Muir always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Muir pushed their record up to 15-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Hoover, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.
