Softball Preview: Lamar Warriors vs. Perryville Mustangs

Lamar and Perryville are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Lamar Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Perryville Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Lamar is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Last Friday, it was a hard-fought match, but Lamar had to settle for a 4-3 defeat against Baptist Prep.

Meanwhile, in what's become a running theme this season, Perryville gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over Maumelle Charter. The high-scoring effort was just what Perryville needed considering they were shutout in their previous matchup.

Perryville let Grace Anderson and Kendyl Griffin loose on the outfield. Anderson went 2-for-2 with four RBI, a run, and a double, while Griffin scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Ella Tolley was another key contributor, going 1-for-1 with a triple, a run, and an RBI.

Lamar's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Perryville, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

Lamar came out on top in a nail-biter against Perryville in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lamar since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
