Softball Recap: Pearsall Finds Home Field Redemption Against Uvalde

There's no place like home for Pearsall, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) by a score of 6-3 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls): they've now won eight in a row.

Kirsten Morales made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Morales was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesslyn Gutierrez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jalyssa Vasquez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Pearsall pushed their record up to 17-10-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Uvalde, they now have a losing record of 12-13-1.

Looking ahead, Pearsall will square off against Carrizo Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mavericks are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Uvalde, they will take on Floresville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
