Baseball Recap: Summers County Wins Going Away Against Liberty

Summers County lost to Liberty back in April, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Bobcats were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Raiders. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.

Colten Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Summers County: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-16-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ryan Oliveros and Robey Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Oliveros went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run, while Brown got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Brown a new career-high. Cody Snavely was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Summers County's record now sits at 11-17-1. As for Liberty, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

Summers County will venture away from home to take on James Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mavericks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Bobcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Liberty, they will host Midland Trail at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.53 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
