Basketball Recap: Charles J. Colgan Sharks vs. Gar-Field Red Wolves
In what's become a running theme this season, the Charles J. Colgan Sharks gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They breezed by Gar-Field at home to the tune of 70-29. Given Charles J. Colgan's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Red Wolves are ranked 307th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Charles J. Colgan had a senior duo take command as Brianna Long dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds and Nadia Grant scored 18 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Grant has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Williams, who scored nine points.
Charles J. Colgan's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Gar-Field, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Charles J. Colgan won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Woodbridge is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Gar-Field, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Hylton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
