Baseball Recap: Irvine Takes a Loss

Irvine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 6-3 to the Pacifica Mariners. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vaqueros of the 4-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2018.

Roshan Patel was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Evan Tamayo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Owen Featherston, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Irvine's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Pacifica, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-11.

Coming up, Irvine will venture away from home to take on Crean Lutheran at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pacifica has already played their next contest (against Yucaipa), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
